#6: Navigating The Menu Screen

Overview

Once you create your character and load into orbit for the first time, you'll see a few menu options. Going to the Character menu will show your Guardian. This will be the hub where you change your subclass, weapon loadout, armor, and customization.  You’ll also see a menu on the top right of the screen that has pages you will be navigating through much of your journey in Destiny 2.

These pages are;

  • Clan
  • Collections
  • Journey
  • Character
  • Inventory

Clan

Clans in Destiny 2 are player-created groups for players to get together to play the game together under a united banner. In the Clan menu, you can find players in your Clan to make fireteams to clear content like strikes and Crucible matches. Furthermore, playing together helps reward the whole clan with bonus rewards and clan XP for customizations like Clan Banners. Most importantly of all, clans allow you to make long-lasting friendships in Destiny 2!

Collections & Your Journey

Your collection is where all the fruits of your labor are compiled. You’ll find a list of recently discovered rewards you’ve collected from across your travels, records sorted into categories for you to look back on, badges to admire, and a one-stop-shop of all the items you own on your Guardian.

Utilize this to see where you’ve gone, and track what you want to hunt for next!

You’ll also be able to check your Journey tab, which outlines your Guardian’s progress throughout their adventure in Destiny 2. You’ll find key information here, like;

  • Guardian Rank & Rank Progress
  • Commendations
    • Awards given by other Guardians at the end of match-made content, whether it’s for good teamwork, being positive, being experienced in the content you're playing, or being fun to play with. You can learn more about Commendations here.
  • Triumphs
    • Achievements that are earned by completing specific criteria and content throughout the game.
  • Titles
    • Guardians can earn and equip these player titles from completing specific Triumphs.
  • Seasonal Challenges
    • Found in the Quests tab, these are weekly rotating objectives that Guardians can complete for a variety of rewards, from Bright Dust, to XP, to gear.

Character

Power

One of the most noticeable things you will see is the number on the top-right of your character's silhouette. This is your Power, which is a core part of how your character progresses. Playing content and completing activities will earn you better loot, better gear, and slowly raise your Power. Each piece of gear you earn in the game has its own individual Power level, and those numbers combined contribute to your overall Power.

The higher your Power, the more challenging and difficult content you will be able to tackle with a fireteam or solo!

Weapons, Gear, Ghosts, and Sparrows

When you’re creating and evolving your Guardian, one of the most important parts of your character is your gear and your weapons. These not only contribute to your overall Power, but can influence both how you look, and how you play the game.

While Ghosts are your companions, traveling alongside you and helping you throughout both the story and in gameplay, your Sparrow is how you navigate through the terrain of the world as the core method of fast travel.

We go further into detail on how Weapons Gear, Ghosts, and Sparrows function in the Your Guardian: Subclasses, Abilities and Gear article of the New Player Guide!

Appearance

While in the Character screen, selecting the hotkey on the bottom of the screen (or the down arrow, if you’re on a console) will pull up the Appearance sub-screen. Here, you’ll be able to modify the appearances of your Sparrow and Ship, equip emblems, and apply Shaders to your gear. You’ll also be able to equip finishers and emotes to utilize in-game here.

Inventory

This is where your Guardian’s inventory lies. Use this menu to check consumable items, currency, engrams, wrapped items, and accessories. To the left of the consumables menu is a button that you can press to then pull up modifications you have for your gear and armor, including armor/gear mods, and ornaments!
