The console cache stores temporary data and files that usually help games run more quickly and efficiently. Occasionally the temporary data or files stored in the cache can become corrupted, partially overwritten, or otherwise go bad. If this happens it can cause the console and Destiny to have issues maintaining connectivity, loading some game files, or other gameplay issues. Clearing the console cache removes the temporary data and files from the cache and allows a fresh set to be downloaded and stored.
Clearing the Console Cache
Please see the steps below for the recommended steps on how to clear the cache on a console.
- Power down the console
- Once the console is completely powered down, unplug the power cord from the back of the console
- Let the console sit unplugged for at least 5 minutes
- Plug the power cord back into the console and power it on
- Re-launch the Destiny game
Vital Information
Please see below for some additional information players may want to know about clearing the console cache.
- Character and Progression Data: Destiny accounts are their Character and progression data are tied to a PSN ID, Xbox Gamertag, or Steam ID. Clearing the console cache will not impact a Character, their Inventory, or their progression.
- Xbox One Instant-On: If the "Instant-On" option is enabled on an Xbox One console, the console may not power down completely when selecting "Turn Xbox Off." Please see the Xbox One Power Options page for more information on switching to the Energy-saving Mode.
